LG’s G-series OLEDs have long been the benchmark for high-end home theater enthusiasts. With the new G4, LG isn’t just iterating; it’s making a bold statement about the future of television with its brightest panel yet and next-generation AI processing. This is a TV that demands to be seen, promising an image so realistic it almost feels tangible.

The cornerstone of the LG G4’s appeal is its breathtaking picture quality, driven by the latest advancements in OLED technology. Incorporating Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology paired with a new brightness-boosting algorithm, the G4 achieves luminance levels previously unheard of for a conventional OLED. This translates into searingly bright specular highlights in HDR content, giving scenes a sense of depth and realism that is simply astounding. This newfound brightness also makes the G4 a more viable option for well-lit living rooms, a traditional weakness of OLED panels. Powering this visual feast is the new Alpha 11 AI processor, which does a masterful job with upscaling, noise reduction, and object enhancement. The result is an image that is not only bright but also incredibly clean, sharp, and true to the creator’s intent, maintaining the perfect black levels and infinite contrast that make OLED the king of picture quality.

True to its “Gallery” designation, the G4 is designed to be a piece of art. Its uniform thickness and razor-thin bezels allow it to sit perfectly flush against a wall using the included specialty mount, creating a seamless, picture-frame effect. The build quality is exceptional, with a premium metal chassis that feels both durable and impossibly sleek. However, this design philosophy comes with a significant caveat: a pedestal stand is not included in the box. While one can be purchased separately, the TV is unequivocally engineered for wall-mounting, a decision that will alienate users who prefer or require a traditional media console setup.

For gamers, the LG G4 is an absolute dream machine. It boasts a full suite of next-generation gaming features across all four of its HDMI 2.1 ports, including 4K gaming at a blistering 144Hz, a first for LG’s OLED lineup. Support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), NVIDIA G-Sync, and AMD FreeSync Premium ensures a tear-free, buttery-smooth experience, while Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) automatically optimizes settings for gaming. LG’s Game Optimizer interface remains a class-leading hub for tweaking settings on the fly, making it one of the most capable and user-friendly gaming displays on the market. The webOS 24 smart platform is fast and feature-rich, though its home screen continues to feel a bit cluttered with content recommendations and advertisements.

Ultimately, the LG G4 OLED represents the peak of current TV technology, but its excellence comes at a steep price. It is an unapologetically premium product that delivers a reference-level viewing experience. When compared to its sibling, the LG C4, the G4’s advantages in peak brightness and processing are noticeable but may not justify the significant price jump for the average user. The G4 is for the uncompromising videophile, the dedicated gamer with a high-end PC, and the design-conscious individual who wants a television that disappears into their wall. For those who fit this profile and are willing to invest, the LG G4 is nothing short of a masterpiece.
