In a market flooded with minimalist mechanical keyboards, Gravastar’s Mercury V75 Pro arrives as a bold statement of futuristic design and premium engineering. This 75% keyboard doesn’t just aim to be a tool for typing; it’s a centerpiece for your entire desk setup. But with a price tag to match its ambitions, the real question is whether its performance can truly justify its striking aesthetic.

A Masterclass in Sci-Fi Design and Build

Gravastar is known for its alien, mecha-inspired designs, and the Mercury V75 Pro is a testament to that ethos. Forged from a single piece of magnesium alloy, the keyboard has a cold, metallic heft that immediately communicates quality. Weighing in at a substantial 1.28kg (2.8 lbs), this is not a board you’ll be casually tossing in a backpack. Its angular lines, perforated side panels, and aggressive posture make it look less like a peripheral and more like a component pulled from a spaceship’s cockpit. This design is undoubtedly divisive; you’ll either love its audacious style or find it over-the-top. Yet, there’s no denying the precision of its construction. The finish is impeccable, the tolerances are tight, and there is absolutely zero deck flex.

The Typing and Gaming Experience

Beneath the eye-catching exterior lies a thoughtfully engineered typing machine. The V75 Pro employs a gasket-mounted structure, isolating the plate from the chassis with soft foam strips. This, combined with multiple layers of sound-dampening material (including poron foam and an IXPE switch pad), results in a remarkably soft and muted typing experience. The sound profile is a deep, satisfying “thock” rather than a high-pitched “clack,” a characteristic many enthusiasts chase in the custom keyboard scene.

Our unit came with pre-lubricated Kailh Morandi linear switches, which are smooth and responsive right out of the box. With a 1,000Hz polling rate in both wired and 2.4GHz wireless modes, the keyboard is more than capable for competitive gaming, registering inputs with no discernible latency. The 75% layout is a popular sweet spot, retaining the function row and arrow keys while maintaining a compact footprint. The hot-swappable PCB is a welcome feature, allowing users to easily swap in their favorite switches without any soldering.

Features, Connectivity, and Quirks

The V75 Pro is equipped with tri-mode connectivity, offering a stable 2.4GHz connection via a USB dongle, Bluetooth 5.1 for up to three devices, and a detachable USB-C cable for wired use and charging. The 4,000mAh battery delivers solid, if not exceptional, longevity, lasting about a week with moderate use and RGB lighting enabled. The programmable metal knob in the top right corner is a nice touch, controlling volume by default but remappable to other functions.

However, the software experience is a slight letdown. While customization of the per-key RGB lighting and macros is possible, the supporting software feels less polished than mainstream alternatives from Corsair or Razer. Most adjustments can be made with onboard key combinations, but for those who prefer a slick GUI, it might feel a bit clunky. The PBT keycaps are high-quality and durable, but the custom font used to match the sci-fi theme can be a bit hard to read at a glance.

The Verdict: Art Piece or Performance Tool?

The Gravastar Mercury V75 Pro is an unapologetically premium and stylistic choice. It successfully bridges the gap between a high-performance gaming keyboard and a piece of desk art. The build quality is phenomenal, and the typing experience is a genuine pleasure, rivaling many pre-built custom boards. The high price tag is its biggest hurdle, placing it in direct competition with established enthusiast brands and even entry-level custom builds.

Ultimately, this keyboard is for the user who values aesthetics as much as performance. If you’ve curated a specific futuristic or industrial look for your setup and want a keyboard that feels as premium as it looks, the V75 Pro is a compelling, if costly, option that delivers on nearly all its promises.
