Lenovo’s Legion line has long been the standard-bearer for gaming laptops that don’t scream for attention. With the arrival of the Legion 5i Gen 10, the challenge is to refine that winning formula without losing its soul. This latest iteration promises more power under the hood, but the real question is whether it continues to master the delicate balance between work and play.

The heart of the Legion 5i has always been its performance, and the Gen 10 model confidently carries that torch forward. Outfitted with Intel’s latest Core Ultra processors and NVIDIA’s RTX 40-series graphics, this machine chews through demanding tasks with ease. In gaming, this translates to buttery-smooth frame rates in AAA titles at its native QHD+ resolution, with DLSS 3 providing a significant boost where available. Critically, Lenovo’s “Coldfront” thermal system remains a standout, managing heat effectively to prevent significant performance throttling during extended sessions. The inclusion of Lenovo’s LA1 AI chip automates power distribution between the CPU and GPU, a clever touch that genuinely seems to eke out a few extra frames without user intervention.

From a design perspective, Lenovo sticks to its “if it ain’t broke” philosophy. The Legion 5i Gen 10 retains the clean lines and subtle, professional aesthetic of its predecessors, clad in a familiar “Storm Grey” chassis. It’s a design that looks just as appropriate in a boardroom as it does at a LAN party. Build quality is robust, with an aluminum lid and a rigid keyboard deck that exhibits minimal flex. However, the matte finish, while handsome, is a magnet for fingerprints and requires frequent cleaning to maintain its sharp look. The signature rear I/O hub is back, a brilliant design choice that keeps bulky cables for power, display, and ethernet out of your mousing space.

The user experience is anchored by an excellent keyboard and display. The 16-inch, 16:10 aspect ratio screen is a highlight, boasting a crisp 2560×1600 resolution, a speedy 165Hz refresh rate, and impressive color accuracy that makes games and creative work pop. It gets bright enough for use in most environments and features G-SYNC to eliminate screen tearing. Below it, the TrueStrike keyboard continues to be one of the best in the business, offering deep key travel, a satisfyingly tactile feel, and a logical layout that makes both typing and gaming comfortable.

While the Legion 5i Gen 10 excels in many areas, it’s not without its trade-offs. As is common with performance-focused gaming laptops, battery life is merely adequate; you’ll want to keep the sizable power brick handy for anything more than light web browsing. And while the port selection is generous, the omission of a full-size SD card reader may frustrate photographers and videographers. In terms of value, the mid-range configurations hit the sweet spot, offering formidable power for the price. However, maxing out the specs pushes it into a premium price bracket where it faces stiffer competition from machines with more exotic materials or thinner profiles.

Ultimately, the Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 10 is a masterful refinement of an already stellar formula. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it perfects the core experience that users have come to expect from the Legion brand. This machine is the ideal choice for the pragmatic gamer or creator who needs a powerful, reliable, and versatile laptop without the flashy, over-the-top aesthetic common in the market. It’s a workhorse that knows how to play hard.
