Each year, the arrival of LG’s new OLEDs sets a fresh benchmark for television excellence, and 2024 is no exception. The new G4 and C4 series promise to refine an already near-perfect formula with brighter panels and smarter processing. The result is a compelling, if familiar, vision for the future of home entertainment.

The headline upgrade for 2024 is, without a doubt, brightness. The flagship G4 series incorporates the latest generation of Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology, which LG has branded “Brightness Booster Max.” This isn’t just marketing speak; the G4 pushes peak HDR highlights to levels that were unthinkable for OLEDs just a few years ago, competing directly with high-end Mini LED sets while retaining OLED’s signature pixel-level control. This is all driven by the new Alpha 11 AI processor, a chip exclusive to the G4 that offers more sophisticated object enhancement and dynamic tone mapping. The C4, meanwhile, gets a healthy brightness boost of its own and inherits a new Alpha 9 Gen 7 processor, making it a significant step up from its predecessor and the clear workhorse of the lineup.

In practice, the G4 delivers a truly breathtaking image. Specular highlights in films and games possess an almost three-dimensional pop, and the improved full-screen brightness makes it a more viable option for viewing in well-lit rooms. The C4 is no slouch, delivering that perfect black contrast and vibrant color that OLED is known for, but when viewed side-by-side with its more expensive sibling, the G4’s brightness advantage is clear. For PC gamers, both series now support a 144Hz variable refresh rate, a welcome upgrade that provides incredibly smooth and responsive gameplay when paired with a high-end graphics card. All four HDMI ports on both models are full-fat 2.1, a standard that LG continues to champion.

From a design perspective, the G-series and C-series maintain their distinct identities. The G4 is the “Gallery” TV, engineered for a perfectly flush, no-gap wall-mount installation, with the necessary bracket included in the box. While LG now includes a stand with smaller G4 sizes in some regions, its primary purpose is to disappear against a wall. The C4 sports a more traditional, versatile design with a central stand and a razor-thin profile that will suit any media console. Build quality on the G4 feels a touch more premium with its metal-trimmed bezel, but the C4 is still a solidly constructed and attractive television. Audio remains a weak point; while the AI Sound Pro feature does its best to create a virtual surround effect, the thin chassis of both models simply doesn’t allow for impactful sound. A dedicated soundbar is all but essential.

LG’s webOS 24 smart platform is a minor evolution, offering user profiles for personalized recommendations and a slightly tidier layout. It remains fast and feature-rich, but it’s also increasingly populated with advertisements on the home screen, which can detract from the premium experience. The value proposition here is starkly divided. The C4 represents the sweet spot, delivering an elite, top-tier OLED experience for a price that, while premium, feels justified. The G4 is a statement piece for the uncompromising enthusiast—the cinephile or gamer who must have the absolute pinnacle of current OLED technology and is willing to pay a hefty premium for that final 10% of performance.

Ultimately, the choice between these two excellent televisions comes down to environment and budget. The LG OLED evo C4 is the definitive recommendation for the vast majority of buyers, offering a phenomenal, reference-level picture that will satisfy all but the most critical viewers. The G4 is for the purist operating in a bright room or the home theater aficionado who wants the most dynamic HDR image possible and plans to wall-mount their display for that clean, gallery-inspired aesthetic.
