Amazfit GTR 4/GTS 4 Review: Style Meets Substance on Your Wrist

Amazfit GTR 4/GTS 4 Image 1

The smartwatch market is a crowded field, but Amazfit consistently carves out a niche by offering compelling features at competitive prices. The GTR 4 (round face) and GTS 4 (square face) are their latest offerings, promising a blend of stylish design, robust fitness tracking, and smart functionality. But do these smartwatches truly deliver, or are they just another case of style over substance? Let’s dive in.

Both the GTR 4 and GTS 4 share the same core DNA, differing primarily in aesthetics. The GTR 4, with its classic round face and aluminum alloy case, exudes a sophisticated, traditional watch vibe. The GTS 4, on the other hand, embraces a more modern, minimalist aesthetic with its rectangular AMOLED display. Regardless of your preference, both models are surprisingly lightweight and comfortable to wear, even during intense workouts. The build quality feels solid, with the aluminum case providing a premium feel, a noticeable improvement over some of their earlier devices.

Performance-wise, the GTR 4 and GTS 4 are snappy and responsive. Navigating the interface is smooth, and apps load quickly. The Zepp OS, while not as feature-rich as Wear OS or watchOS, is intuitive and well-optimized for battery life. Speaking of battery, Amazfit delivers on its promise of impressive endurance. We consistently achieved 7-10 days of usage on a single charge with moderate activity tracking and notifications. This is a major advantage over many competitors that struggle to last even two days.

Fitness tracking is a key strength. The BioTracker 4.0 PPG biometric sensor provides accurate heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurement, and stress level tracking. The watches also support over 150 sports modes, providing detailed metrics for a wide range of activities. The GPS is fast and accurate, providing reliable location data for outdoor workouts. While the sleep tracking is comprehensive, offering insights into sleep stages and breathing quality, it can sometimes be overly sensitive, recording short periods of inactivity as naps.

Beyond fitness, the GTR 4 and GTS 4 offer a decent suite of smart features. Bluetooth calling works surprisingly well, with clear audio quality. Offline music playback is a welcome addition, allowing you to leave your phone at home during workouts. However, the selection of third-party apps is limited compared to more established platforms. NFC for contactless payments is a hit-or-miss affair depending on your region and bank.

The value proposition is where the GTR 4 and GTS 4 truly shine. They offer a compelling set of features and performance at a price point that undercuts many of their rivals. While they may not have the same level of polish or ecosystem integration as some of the more expensive options, they provide an excellent balance of features, performance, and affordability.

Final Verdict: The Amazfit GTR 4 and GTS 4 are excellent smartwatches for users who prioritize fitness tracking, long battery life, and stylish design without breaking the bank. They offer a compelling alternative to pricier options, making them ideal for budget-conscious fitness enthusiasts and everyday users alike. Those seeking a more robust app ecosystem or advanced smart features may want to look elsewhere, but for most users, these smartwatches offer a compelling and well-rounded experience.
