The smartwatch market often feels like a two-horse race, but a new contender is challenging the status quo by focusing on holistic wellness. The Amazfit Balance isn’t just about tracking steps or showing notifications; it aims to be a comprehensive life coach on your wrist. It promises a deeper understanding of your body’s recovery, composition, and readiness for the day.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Amazfit Balance is its refined, classic design. Eschewing the overtly techy look of some rivals, it opts for a traditional round watch face housed in a lightweight aluminum alloy frame. At just 35 grams (without the strap), it’s comfortable enough for 24/7 wear, which is crucial for a device that tracks your sleep. The rotating crown is a fantastic tactile addition, providing a satisfying and precise way to scroll through menus and data screens, while a single customizable button offers a quick shortcut. The 1.5-inch AMOLED display is the star of the show—it’s incredibly bright, sharp, and vibrant, making everything from watch faces to workout stats a pleasure to view, even in direct sunlight.

Under the hood, Zepp OS 3.0 provides a fluid and responsive user experience. Navigating through widgets, apps, and settings is smooth, with no noticeable lag. However, the software’s primary weakness is its app ecosystem. While it covers the basics and includes a few handy third-party apps like GoPro control, it pales in comparison to the vast libraries available on watchOS and Wear OS. This is a connected device, but it feels more like a standalone wellness tool than a true extension of your smartphone.

Where the Balance truly makes its case is with its advanced health and wellness features. The headline feature is on-wrist body composition analysis. By placing your fingers on the crown, the watch sends a small electrical current through your body to measure key metrics like body fat percentage, skeletal muscle, and body water. While it won’t replace a dedicated smart scale for absolute accuracy, it’s surprisingly consistent for tracking trends over time—a powerful motivator right on your wrist. This data feeds into another key feature: the “Readiness” score. Every morning, the watch presents a score from 1-100, analyzing your sleep, heart rate variability, and resting heart rate to assess your physical and mental recovery. It’s Amazfit’s compelling answer to similar features from Garmin and Oura, providing actionable advice on whether you should push hard in a workout or prioritize rest.

For fitness enthusiasts, the inclusion of dual-band, multi-system GPS is a massive win at this price point. It delivers fast satellite lock-on and provides remarkably accurate tracking for outdoor activities like running and cycling, rivaling the performance of more expensive dedicated GPS watches. This, combined with over 150 sport modes and the AI-powered Zepp Coach, makes it a capable training partner. Of course, the Amazfit brand is synonymous with incredible battery life, and the Balance doesn’t disappoint. With typical use, you can easily expect close to two weeks on a single charge; even with heavy use and the always-on display enabled, it comfortably lasts five to seven days. This single feature makes competitors from Apple and Samsung, which require daily charging, feel archaic.

The Amazfit Balance carves out a compelling niche for itself. It delivers a premium hardware experience with a stunning display and excellent build quality. Its value proposition is anchored by its class-leading battery life and a suite of innovative wellness features that are genuinely useful for anyone looking to better understand their body. While it can’t compete on app support or the slickness of its mobile payment system (Zepp Pay’s bank support remains very limited), it excels as a self-contained health and fitness device.

The Amazfit Balance is for the user who is tired of daily charging and wants deeper health insights without paying a premium price. If you value a long-lasting battery, a great screen, and innovative wellness features like body composition analysis, this watch is a fantastic choice. However, if your priority is a sprawling app ecosystem, seamless mobile payments, and tight integration with a specific phone OS, you’ll likely be better served by the mainstream players.
