For years, LG’s C-series has been the gold standard for OLED TVs, masterfully blending premium performance with a mainstream price tag. The new LG C4 OLED arrives with the heavy burden of that legacy, aiming to refine an already winning formula for a new generation of home theater enthusiasts and hardcore gamers. It steps into a competitive landscape, tasked with proving that incremental evolution is still enough to maintain its reign.

The LG C4 is a testament to the idea that greatness lies in refinement. At its core, the television delivers the sublime picture quality we expect from OLED technology: perfect, inky blacks, infinite contrast, and vibrant, lifelike colors that pop off the screen. This year, LG has equipped the 55-inch and larger models with its Brightness Booster Max technology, which leverages Micro Lens Array (MLA) tech to push peak brightness significantly higher than its predecessor, the C3. The result is a more impactful HDR experience, with specular highlights that have genuine sparkle and an image that holds up better in moderately lit rooms. Smaller 42-inch and 48-inch models get a more modest brightness boost, a key differentiator for those considering a desktop monitor replacement.

Driving this visual prowess is the new Alpha 9 Gen 7 AI Processor. While “AI processing” can often feel like a marketing buzzword, the chip’s impact is tangible here. Motion handling is exceptionally smooth and clear, minimizing judder without introducing an artificial “soap opera effect.” Upscaling of lower-resolution content is also remarkably clean, rendering 1080p Blu-rays and streaming content with a sharpness that comes impressively close to native 4K. Color accuracy is superb out of the box, particularly in Filmmaker Mode, which provides a picture that is faithful to the creator’s intent.

For gamers, the C4 is an absolute powerhouse and arguably one of the best gaming displays on the market. It now supports a 144Hz refresh rate, a notable upgrade from last year’s 120Hz cap, making it a perfect partner for high-end gaming PCs. Coupled with four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports, NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium support, and an incredibly low input lag, the C4 delivers a flawlessly responsive and fluid gaming session. LG’s Game Optimizer menu remains a class-leading interface, giving users quick access to crucial settings on the fly.

From a design perspective, the C4 is sleek, minimalist, and impossibly thin. Its use of composite fiber materials makes it surprisingly lightweight, simplifying wall-mounting. The central stand is sturdy and practical, though it doesn’t exude the same premium feel as the metallic stands on some rival sets. On the software front, webOS 24 is a welcome update. It’s faster, slightly more streamlined, and the inclusion of Chromecast Built-in alongside AirPlay 2 makes casting content from any device effortless. The platform still features its share of ads, but user profiles and a more logical layout make it easier to navigate. While the built-in speakers are clear enough for casual viewing, their lack of low-end punch means a soundbar—ideally one that can leverage LG’s WOW Orchestra feature for synchronized audio—is an almost essential addition for an immersive experience.

The LG C4 is a brilliantly executed television that polishes an already stellar formula. It’s a confident step forward that delivers meaningful improvements in brightness, processing, and gaming features. For dedicated gamers with a powerful PC, the jump to 144Hz makes it a near-perfect choice. For cinephiles, the enhanced HDR performance on the larger MLA-equipped models makes it a truly compelling centerpiece for a home theater. While it may not be a revolutionary leap, the C4 solidifies its position as the versatile, high-performance OLED to beat, making it the ideal choice for users who demand excellence across all forms of content.
