In an age where power outages and off-grid adventures are increasingly common, the humble power bank has evolved into a veritable lifeline. Anker’s latest offering isn’t just for topping up your phone; it’s a portable power station designed for modern resilience. The PowerCore Reserve 192Wh aims to bridge the gap between pocket-sized chargers and bulky solar generators, offering a compelling middle ground for serious power users.

Anker has opted for a design that screams utility over aesthetics, and that’s a good thing. The PowerCore Reserve looks less like a sleek accessory and more like a rugged piece of essential gear. Its sturdy, boxy frame is made from durable matte plastic, and the integrated handle makes lugging its 5-pound (2.3kg) weight manageable. This is not a power bank you slip into a backpack and forget about; it’s a deliberate choice for extended trips, emergency kits, or a remote worksite. The front is dominated by a clear, informative LCD screen that shows remaining capacity, input/output wattage, and even an estimate of time until full or empty—a feature that provides welcome clarity and peace of mind.

The headline feature is, of course, the colossal 60,000mAh (192Wh) capacity. This is enough juice to recharge a modern smartphone over 10 times, a MacBook Air about three times, or a professional camera battery a dozen times. In testing, it reliably powered a 13-inch laptop, a phone, and a tablet simultaneously without breaking a sweat. The port selection is practical, featuring two USB-C ports (one 60W input/output, one 27W output) and two USB-A ports (18W output). The 60W Power Delivery output is sufficient for most ultrabooks and tablets, though it may struggle to keep up with high-performance 15-inch or 16-inch laptops under a heavy load, which might only see their batteries drain more slowly rather than charge.

Beyond its core function as a battery, the PowerCore Reserve packs in several thoughtful features that elevate its utility. The most prominent is the retractable, high-intensity lamp built into the side. With two brightness levels and an SOS mode, it’s a genuinely useful addition for camping or a power outage, casting a wide, even light that’s far more effective than a phone’s flashlight. Another key feature is the ability to recharge via solar. While it requires a separate solar panel, this capability transforms it from a finite power source into a sustainable off-grid solution. Recharging the massive internal battery via its 60W USB-C input still takes over three hours, so planning ahead is essential.

Ultimately, the Anker PowerCore Reserve 192Wh isn’t for everyone. If you just need to keep your phone alive during a long commute, this is complete overkill. But for those who venture off the beaten path, prepare for emergencies, or need a reliable power hub for a mobile office, its value is immense. It expertly combines massive capacity, versatile I/O, and clever emergency features into a single, robust package that justifies its premium positioning. It’s an investment in power independence and a reliable companion for when the grid is out of reach.
