LG Gram Pro 16: Featherweight Champion or Lightweight Contender?

LG Gram Pro 16 Image 1

LG’s Gram series has long been synonymous with portability, but the Gram Pro 16 aims for more than just being easy to carry. This machine promises a potent blend of power and portability, targeting professionals who demand both performance and all-day battery life. But does it deliver on this ambitious promise, or are compromises made in pursuit of that elusive balance? We put the Gram Pro 16 through its paces to find out.

The first thing that strikes you is the sheer lightness of this 16-inch laptop. LG has managed to pack a respectable amount of hardware into a chassis that feels almost impossibly light. This makes it a joy to carry around, a genuine advantage for those who frequently work on the go. The design is clean and understated, favoring minimalism over flashy aesthetics. The dark obsidian color scheme further contributes to a professional look. However, the material choice—while contributing to the weight reduction—does feel a little plasticky.

Performance-wise, the Gram Pro 16 handles everyday tasks with ease. The Intel Core Ultra processor provides ample power for browsing, document editing, and light photo editing. The integrated Intel Arc graphics are a notable step up from previous generations, allowing for some casual gaming and moderate video editing. It’s not a powerhouse, but it’s more than capable for most productivity-focused workloads. We found the laptop remained cool and quiet even under sustained load, a welcome change from some of its competitors.

The display is a highlight, boasting excellent color accuracy and brightness. The OLED panel provides deep blacks and vibrant colors, making it a pleasure to consume content. The high resolution ensures sharp text and images, reducing eye strain during long work sessions. The keyboard offers a decent typing experience with reasonable key travel, but it can feel a little soft for those accustomed to mechanical keyboards. The trackpad is spacious and responsive, supporting multi-finger gestures without issue.

Battery life is commendable, consistently delivering around 8-10 hours of real-world usage on a single charge. This is a significant advantage for professionals who need to work unplugged for extended periods. The inclusion of Thunderbolt 4 ports adds to the connectivity options, allowing for fast data transfer and external display support. The webcam is adequate for video conferencing, but could benefit from improved low-light performance.

Ultimately, the LG Gram Pro 16 is a compelling option for professionals who prioritize portability and battery life without sacrificing too much performance. It’s not the most powerful laptop on the market, but it strikes a commendable balance between power and portability.
