ASUS ROG G22CH: Small Size, Big Performance? A Deep Dive

ASUS ROG G22CH Image 1

The ASUS ROG G22CH enters a crowded market of small form factor (SFF) gaming PCs, promising desktop-level performance in a surprisingly compact chassis. This isn’t just about aesthetics; SFF PCs are gaining traction with users seeking power without sacrificing precious desk space. The G22CH aims to deliver on that promise, packing potent hardware into a diminutive package. Does it succeed, or are there compromises lurking beneath the surface? Let’s dissect this little gaming beast.

At the heart of the G22CH lies a powerful combination of Intel processing and NVIDIA graphics. Configuration options vary, of course, but even the lower-end models pack a considerable punch. We tested a configuration featuring an Intel Core i7-13700KF and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, which proved more than capable of handling modern AAA titles at high settings. Frame rates remained consistently high, even during graphically demanding scenes. The CPU handled multi-tasking with ease, allowing for streaming or recording gameplay without significant performance dips.

The design of the G22CH is undeniably ROG. Angular lines, customizable RGB lighting, and the iconic ROG logo are all present. While the aesthetics are subjective, the build quality feels premium. The metal chassis is sturdy, and the attention to detail is evident throughout. ASUS has also incorporated intelligent thermal design to combat the inevitable heat generated within a small space. While the cooling solution is effective, the fans can become audible under heavy load.

Beyond raw power, the G22CH offers a range of features designed to enhance the gaming experience. The included Armoury Crate software allows for granular control over system settings, including fan curves, RGB lighting, and performance profiles. Multiple USB ports, including USB-C, provide ample connectivity for peripherals and external storage. Wi-Fi 6E ensures a stable and fast wireless connection.

Ultimately, the value proposition of the G22CH hinges on its price. SFF PCs typically command a premium due to the engineering challenges involved in packing high-performance components into a small space. The G22CH is no exception. While the performance is impressive, the cost might be prohibitive for some. The availability of easily upgradable components, like RAM and storage, does add to the long-term value, but the graphics card replacement possibilities are constrained by the case size and power supply.
