Garmin Venu 2/2 Plus Review: The Smartwatch That Gets Smarter (And Better)

Garmin Venu 2/2 Plus Image 1

Garmin has long been synonymous with fitness tracking, but their Venu line represents a confident stride into smartwatch territory. The Venu 2 and 2 Plus, while evolutionary rather than revolutionary, refine the formula, offering a compelling blend of health metrics, smart features, and premium aesthetics. Are they the ultimate jack-of-all-trades wearables? Let’s dive in.

The Venu 2 series immediately impresses with its vibrant AMOLED display. Colors pop, blacks are inky, and legibility is excellent even in direct sunlight. Navigating the interface is smooth and responsive, a testament to Garmin’s improved processing power. Speaking of performance, the Venu 2 and 2 Plus handle everything thrown at them with aplomb. From detailed workout tracking to managing notifications and even taking calls (on the 2 Plus), there’s little to no lag.

Design-wise, the Venu 2 leans toward a sporty, minimalist aesthetic. The stainless-steel bezel adds a touch of class, while the comfortable silicone band ensures all-day wearability. The 2 Plus introduces a third button, which primarily activates the voice assistant (Siri, Google Assistant, or Bixby). Build quality is robust – these watches feel like they can withstand the rigors of daily life and intense workouts.

The feature set is where the Venu 2 series truly shines. Garmin’s comprehensive health tracking suite is present and accounted for, including heart rate monitoring, SpO2 tracking, sleep analysis, stress tracking, and Body Battery energy monitoring. GPS accuracy is excellent, even in challenging environments. The 2 Plus adds the ability to make and receive calls directly from your wrist, a convenient addition for those who value hands-free communication. Garmin Pay offers contactless payments, adding another layer of convenience.

While the Venu 2 series excels in many areas, it’s not without its shortcomings. Garmin’s app ecosystem, Connect IQ, lags behind the likes of Apple and Google in terms of app selection and overall polish. Battery life, while respectable, falls short of some of Garmin’s more fitness-focused offerings. Expect around 5-7 days on the Venu 2 and slightly less on the 2 Plus with regular use. Finally, while the voice assistant integration on the 2 Plus is a welcome addition, it can be occasionally finicky.

Ultimately, the Garmin Venu 2 and 2 Plus represent a significant step forward for Garmin in the smartwatch arena. They offer a compelling combination of fitness tracking prowess, smart features, and premium design. These are fantastic devices for individuals seeking a stylish and capable smartwatch with a strong emphasis on health and wellness.
