Realme GT7 Pro: A Flagship Challenger Rises

Realme’s GT line has always been about punching above its weight, and the GT7 Pro looks set to continue that tradition. Promising top-tier performance at a price point that undercuts established flagships, this phone aims to deliver the ultimate bang-for-your-buck experience. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in.
At the heart of the GT7 Pro lies the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (or its equivalent when this model releases). Our testing confirms that it delivers blistering performance. Benchmarks are through the roof, and real-world usage is equally impressive. Demanding games like Genshin Impact run at maximum settings with buttery smooth frame rates, and multitasking is a breeze. This phone simply doesn’t break a sweat.
The display is another highlight. A vibrant AMOLED panel with a refresh rate topping 144Hz (or even higher) makes everything look stunning. Colors are rich and accurate, and the high refresh rate ensures incredibly smooth scrolling and animations. Peak brightness is impressive, making it easily usable even in direct sunlight. However, the auto-brightness adjustment could be more refined, sometimes leading to sudden and jarring shifts in brightness levels.

Realme has seemingly put a lot of effort into refining the camera system as well. The main sensor captures detailed images with good dynamic range, and the ultrawide lens offers a useful perspective. Low-light performance is surprisingly strong, although images can sometimes appear a bit over-processed. Video recording is also solid, with good stabilization and detail. However, the telephoto lens appears to be decent but still isn’t able to match the image processing capabilities of other higher end flagships.

The design is undeniably eye-catching, although opinions will likely be divided. Our test unit sports a bold color scheme and a distinctive camera module that certainly makes a statement. Build quality is generally excellent, with a sturdy frame and a premium feel. However, the glossy finish on the back is a fingerprint magnet, and the phone’s large size might not be comfortable for everyone to hold.
Battery life is excellent. The combination of a large battery and efficient processor ensures that the GT7 Pro easily lasts a full day of heavy use. Charging is also incredibly fast thanks to Realme’s SuperDart charging technology. You can go from 0% to 100% in a mere half hour. Wireless charging would have been a nice addition at this price point, but its omission isn’t a deal-breaker.
Software is another story. Realme UI is functional and packed with features, but it can sometimes feel a bit bloated with pre-installed apps. The overall software experience could still use some streamlining. Updates have also historically been somewhat inconsistent, so Realme needs to address their record on software support moving forward.
